A Time for Change

Seasons in nature change, sometime right when we would expect them too. And sometimes we go from winter to 55 degrees to a deep freeze. Maybe you don’t realize it, but aspects of life also have seasons. A friendship you thought would last forever fades or ends. A beloved hobby no longer holds your interest. Perhaps your sense of spirituality has changed. “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2) If that biblical writer is right, and I believe that is the case, why harbor resentment when the season of a friendship or hobby goes dormant or ends? If your faith seems remote? That too, can indicate a different season of faith, rather than a permanent state. The trigger could be a medical diagnosis, relationship change, or loss. You might be tempted to isolate yourself until life seems more settled. Consider instead visiting a house of worship … St. James, or another of your choosing. May you find support and acceptance whatever your choice.
